Helon Johnson Ryals, 97, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, August 2, 2012.
Helon was born on April 29, 1915 in Wauchula, Florida, the first child of Bethel C. Johnson and Ruby Thurmond Johnson. Helon graduated from Manatee County, Florida High School and attended business school. She became the Senior Accountant and Treasurer and retired from the Citrus Machinery Corporation in Orlando, Florida.
Helon and her late husband Marvin C. Ryals of Warner Robins, Georgia were married on December 6, 1941. Marvin immediately joined the United States Army Air Corps where he served in England with the 8th Air Force. He then returned to Orlando where they lived the rest of their lives. They were married sixty-one years.
Helon, whose nickname is "Neenie" is survived by her brothers, Winston of Atlanta, Georgia; Hjalma of Dade City, Florida; daughter, Pat Garmany; grandchildren, Angie, Ron, and Ken; nine great grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers-in law, Frank Ryals (Nell), Raymond Ryals, all of Warner Robins; nephews, Jimmy Ryals, John Ryals (Ann), grand nephews, John Ryals, Jr., Jamie Ryals; grandniece, Ashley Harrell, all of Warner Robins; nieces, Sandra Strickland (Neil), grandniece, Kasey Russell (Richard) and their daughter, Mary Ryals; Cory Jernigan (John); nephew, Terry Rape (Lynda), grandnephew, Hal Rape (Cassie), and grandniece, Joni Crane, all of Brunswick.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 4, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. (following the visitation) on Saturday in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with entombment following in Magnolia Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations to Happy Hour Workshop, 716 Young Avenue, Warner Robins, Georgia 31093.
